Following the announcement that ISPE General Secretary, Ross Alcock, is retiring, (See ISPE News Page of this website) the Institute is looking for new office staff.
The new secretariat will effectively manage the day-to-day running of the Institute of Swimming Pool Engineers, including, but not limited to:
- Organising ISPE examinations, seminars, workshops, annual awards, dealing with ISPE publications, the ISPE CPD scheme, the ISPE Home Study Course and producing the ISPE Magazine and other material.
- Representing the Institute at seminars, workshops, SPATEX and/or other exhibitions/trade events as required, acting as the ‘face of the Institute’ and the first point of contact to ISPE Members, prospective new members, non-members, and other industry and non-industry organisations, including pool/spa trade magazines, giving help, advice and information, as required.
- Managing the Institute’s membership database of around 800 members and students, adding new members and amending details, as required, keeping the information secure and in line with Data Protection Regulations. Assisting in strategies to ensure the future of the Institute, and increasing the membership.
- Liaising with the Institute Council of Management, organising meetings, giving help and advice, as required, taking instructions from and carrying out given tasks effectively and efficiently.
- Controlling the day-to-day payments in and out of the company, maintaining meticulous records, producing reports and budget figures to the Council, as required, and preparing the accounts to pre-audit level.
About You:
You will have had office-based experience and most likely have been in a customer-facing role for some time, being confident, articulate, and able to multi-task, dealing with a number of different projects, with frequent interruptions which may take priority. You might have technical knowledge of swimming pools and associated equipment and/or marketing experience. You will be self-motivated, able to often work on your own, have an eye for detail, and have a flair for writing accurate copy and be capable of editing and proofreading written material, both in printed form and on social media/digital platforms.

Pool Support Operative Required
The school
Windlesham House School, set in 65 acres on the West Sussex South Downs, is one of the country’s leading IAPS co-educational boarding and day prep schools for children aged 4 to 13.
The Role
We are looking for a pool support operative to join our busy Estates team to be responsible for the upkeep of our new Sports Complex which includes a 25 metre 6 lane swimming pool, 4 indoor playing courts, changing rooms and offices. The successful candidate will have good all-round maintenance knowledge and some previous experience in pool maintenance.
Responsibilities.
As pool support operative you will be responsible for the general upkeep and cleanliness of the swimming pool, poolside areas, and sports hall; including day to day testing of water quality to ensure that it is maintained in a safe and serviceable condition, and a regular sweep and clean of the sports hall floor. The successful candidate will also be expected to carry out general scheduled and preventative maintenance and repairs to the swimming pool’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and within the wider sports complex. Also, as a member of the maintenance team, additional maintenance tasks, which could include general maintenance, painting, and responding to the needs of the school community, and help setting up for school and external events will also be part of the role on a regular basis.
Pool Support and General Maintenance Job Requirements
- Be familiar with basic pool testing and maintenance requirements.

- Experience in a maintenance capacity, with reactive and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Live within proximity of the school, with a willingness and ability to attend the school out-of-normal hours for events or in an emergency.
- Be able to work alone, and within a team.
- Be able to problem solve and resolve issues within safe remit.
- Recognise and evaluate safe working of air handling units and building systems (BMS).
- Valid driving licence
Desirable:
- Good organisational, administrative & computer skills.
- Responsive to change.
- Experience with legionella compliance.
- RLSS lifeguard, or willing to carry out the training upon contract.
- L8 legionella responsible person certificate, or willing to complete upon employment.

Hours
As pool support and general maintenance, you will work 40 hours per week.
Some out of hours call out shifts may be required. Undertake out of hours On-Call cover on a 1 in 7-week cycle. Mileage will be paid.
Monday to Thursday 10:00am – 6:00pm
Sunday 08:00am – 4:00pm
In holiday times an earlier shift can be discussed.
Meals are provided whilst on duty and when the school is in session.
Compulsory Workdays
As part of the school’s event programme, there are a few events that will be required for all estates staff to attend to ensure a safe and smoothly running event. In addition, there may be opportunities to help with other events that run throughout the year.

Our office is based in West Sussex, and we operate Nationwide with high concentration of Clients in London and the South of England.
We are looking to bring in a Field-Based Swimming Pool Engineer with a positive “can do” attitude and strong customer service skills.
Ideal candidates will have previous experience with swimming pool maintenance and be willing to expand their knowledge and skills across all types of pool equipment learning from our current pool of experienced engineers.
Key Duties for Our Swimming Pool Engineers include:
- Routine servicing of commercial and residential swimming pools, spas, saunas, and steam rooms
- Liaising with clients at all levels and their representatives
- Fault finding and resolving issues as part of a first-time fix philosophy
- Carrying out small works and plant alterations
- Opening and closing outdoor swimming pools for the season
- Attending call outs for key clients
- Be able to examine water chemistry test results and action appropriately
- Be able to assess sites and provide condition reports to aid the Service Manager in quoting for additional works
- Some projects may require staying away for short periods
- Being part of an Out of Hours On Call Rota (Typically 1 Weekend in 8)
Attributes & Qualifications
- Previous experience in swimming pool industry
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Have a good attention to detail
- Good organisational, communication & strong customer service skills
- A self-motivated person who can work independently and as part of a team
- Building strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and colleagues
- Being physically fit (able to lift 25kg bags of media)
- ISPE qualification or equivalent (or be willing to undertake this training)
- Full clean driving license
Remuneration Package
- 20 days paid holiday per annum (increases with Long Service) plus Bank Holidays

- £28,000 – £33,000 Depending on Experience (OTE £35K – £40K plus)
