MAIN PURPOSE:

Pool Support Operative Required
The school
Windlesham House School, set in 65 acres on the West Sussex South Downs, is one of the country’s leading IAPS co-educational boarding and day prep schools for children aged 4 to 13.
The Role
We are looking for a pool support operative to join our busy Estates team to be responsible for the upkeep of our new Sports Complex which includes a 25 metre 6 lane swimming pool, 4 indoor playing courts, changing rooms and offices. The successful candidate will have good all-round maintenance knowledge and some previous experience in pool maintenance.
Responsibilities.
As pool support operative you will be responsible for the general upkeep and cleanliness of the swimming pool, poolside areas, and sports hall; including day to day testing of water quality to ensure that it is maintained in a safe and serviceable condition, and a regular sweep and clean of the sports hall floor. The successful candidate will also be expected to carry out general scheduled and preventative maintenance and repairs to the swimming pool’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and within the wider sports complex. Also, as a member of the maintenance team, additional maintenance tasks, which could include general maintenance, painting, and responding to the needs of the school community, and help setting up for school and external events will also be part of the role on a regular basis.
Pool Support and General Maintenance Job Requirements

Role Overview:
- Filtration system installation
- Pool shell Building
- Media changes
- Pump install
- Water-testing
- Pipework upgrades, pressure testing.
- Cover services
- Stock control
- Swimming pool associated works (eg servicing) where required.
- Cable installations
- Commissioning
You will need to be comfortable with travel and occasional nights away from home. You will ideally be located centrally within the M4 corridor to enable easy travel between the Southeast, Southwest, The Midlands and our HQ in Bristol.
Detailed Person Requirements.
- You will have a sound technical and practical background in general construction, with 2+ years of experience of swimming pool construction/ associated landscaping, preferably with plumbing and/or electrical experience;
- Comfortable and confident liaising with customers.
- Be able to read and interpret drawings.
- Confident communicating on multiple media eg to flag any issues with the design team
- Have experience of working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment;
- Be highly organised with the ability to plan and prioritise work with your project manager
- Demonstrate ability to use initiative to solve problems on site
- Own a Clean UK Driving license and professional in appearance
- Knowledge and experience with excavating equipment and hardscape installation a bonus
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions (with the right kit supplied)
- Knowledge of Health and Safety policy and legislation / CDM regulations
Example tasks:
- Plant room fit-out from start to finish – Working with one other you will be expected to follow plumbing schematics to fit out plant rooms typically containing three filters
- Installation of pipework between pool to plant room
- Installation of pool fittings into pool shells
- Pressure testing and sign off pipework installed
- General construction including laying of coping, decking, ICF Building
- Installation of 24v electrical system in our plant rooms to enable remote system control and monitoring.
- Ordering of key components from suppliers
- Checking on subcontractors work for quality and dimensional accuracy, and ensuring site checklists are completed

Our offices are based in Bovey Tracey, Devon, but we are looking for experienced Pool Maintenance Engineers to carry out pool maintenance visits to our clients who are based mainly in London and the Home Counties
Ideal candidates will have previous experience with swimming pool maintenance and be willing to expand their knowledge and skills across all types of pool equipment.

Key Duties for Our Swimming Pool Engineers include:
- Routine servicing of commercial and residential swimming pools, spas, saunas, and steam rooms
- Fault finding and resolving issues as part of a first-time fix attitude.
- Carrying out small works and plant alterations
- Opening and closing outdoor swimming pools for the season
- Attending call outs for key clients
- Be able to examine water chemistry test results and action appropriately.
- Be able to assess sites and provide condition reports to aid the Service Manager in quoting for additional works.

Required to undertake all aspects of building swimming pools including: rendering, screeding, blockwork, pipework, tiling and paving.

Key Duties for Our Swimming Pool Engineers include:

- Liaising with clients at all levels and their representatives
- Fault finding and resolving issues as part of a first-time fix philosophy
- Carrying out small works and plant alterations
- Opening and closing outdoor swimming pools for the season
- Attending call outs for key clients
- Be able to examine water chemistry test results and action appropriately
- Be able to assess sites and provide condition reports to aid the Service Manager in quoting for additional works
- Some projects may require staying away for short periods
- Being part of an Out of Hours On Call Rota (Typically 1 Weekend in 8)
